This is a collaborative venture in which we team up with UK experts in different fields to create high quality online video training courses that we then sell via platforms like Udemy and share the profits.  If you’re a professional in your field and looking for an additional passive income, then read on!

The Opportunity

There are a number of platforms online that allow users to upload and sell video courses, such a Udemy.  While looking at some of these courses, we realised the vast majority are seriously lacking in quality, in many cases the instructors just used their phones!  And poorly!  The crazy thing is that people lap it up!  Udemy sells its course enrollments for just £15 each but has a global audience of around 24 million, and so it’s a numbers game.  We know of a few individuals that decided to jump on this and are now clearing significant sums each month.  We also realised that we’re perfectly positioned to really blow a lot of these courses out of the water as the quality of material we produce is so much higher, essentially broadcast standard.  Here’s a few recent projects to give you an idea:

The quality of most of the material on these platforms is truly very low, if you don’t believe us, go check it out yourselves.  Unfortunately, when the production is super low end, even if the presentation is acceptable, the content suffers as the viewer becomes distracted by random noises, poor lighting or jumpy editing.  However, even though that’s the case across a lot of this material, there is still a lot of money being made.  Udemy offer an insights tool which allows you to view the supply and demand for all the topics they cover and the average and top monthly revenue figures.  Here’s an example:

The Money

So how does it make money? Good question!  Glad you’ve got your business head on.  Online training courses on Udemy generate revenue through a number of channels:

• Instructor Promotion: 97% revenue share on sales made by instructors where the student purchases their course using a direct link (there is 3% administrative processing fee)
• Udemy Organic: 50% revenue share on organic Udemy sales where no direct link is used. Udemy and the instructor share equally on these sales, which might occur after a user browses the Udemy marketplace for courses, arrives at your course via a Google search or makes a purchase via a Udemy promotion.
• Paid User Acquisition Channel Sales: 25% instructor revenue share in most cases. In order to optimize your sales, Udemy partner with affiliates across our global networks or pay for advertising for your course.

The important thing to note here is that, if you make a course, then don’t bother with any promotion yourself, it will still generate revenue, albeit at a lower rate, through the latter two channels that are marketed and promoted by the platform itself.  However, if you promote the course yourself, you retain a much larger share.

The Proposal

So, here’s what we’re offering:

1. You, the expert, write a training course.
2. We, the production company, film and edit the full course.
3. We upload it to Udemy and other similar platforms (the uploads are not exclusive).
4. We split the revenue 50/50.

The Terms

Just a few things to note before moving forward:

1. You must be UK based.
2. You must be an expert with a proven track record in your field.  The form this will take will depend on your area of expertise.
3. You must have an audience, be it online or otherwise.
4. The promotion of the course will be your responsibility.  We are obviously not experts in your industry and therefore do not have the ability to promote the course like you do.  Remember, the course will generate revenue passively through the Udemy marketing channels but a greater share of the revenue will be retained through self-promotion.
5. All course uploads and finances will be managed by Shorefront Training.  You will receive a monthly/quarterly statements and the funds will be transferred automatically to your bank account.
